I had the honor of attending the Missouri SHRM conference last week and I was beyond excited for a few reasons. One, I got to hang out with some of my favorite people: Kristi Jones, Dwane Lay and new friends Lori Maher and Kevin Call. Two, I got to do my first co-presentation with Kristi on Social Media for HR. Lake Ozark, MO was the location of this years conference. It was a beautiful location at the Four Seasons Lodge. The conference had over 550 attendees and over 75 exhibitors this year! It was truly one of the most organized conferences I have ever seen.
Some of my favorite things:
Social Media Corner
This year at the conference Social Media Director, Kristi Jones, set up a space devoted to teaching others about social media. I was so excited to be a part of it and be able to help others learn about Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. What was really interesting to me was the majority of people just wanted help with Twitter. It’s exciting to see other HR professionals understand the value in Twitter now and be eager to jump on board. We set up a lot of new people and taught them the basics. Check out the #moshrm12 stream to follow the new HR pros!
Lori and the conference team work really hard to find speakers that you may not see at other conferences. She does an amazing job at this and the speakers blew me away! Some of my favorites: Josh Sundquist, Cy Wakeman, Andy Masters and Dwane Lay.
A fun evening devoted to relaxing by the lake, listening to steel drums, and enjoying a nice cold beverage. Tables were set up outside, the weather was perfect and it was a great time to socialize and meet others from the conference. Kronos sponsored the event and gave away an iPad to one lucky winner! A perfect way to end the last night of the conference.
Social Media Session
So of course I have to mention the social media session that Kristi and I presented on Friday. It was our first time speaking at a conference and we had a lot of fun! I was blown away by the attendance of our session and the excitement from the audience. It is great to see so many HR professionals engaged in social media and eager to learn more and get involved.
I thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone at Missouri SHRM and look forward to attending in the future! Check out Missouri SHRM’s website for more information on their chapter and events!
